Welcome to Run to the Stumps
Ladies and Gentlemen,
On behalf of the 2012 Pendleton to the Palms relay run team, I’d like to extend my deepest and sincerest thanks and appreciation for your support in our efforts to honor our fellow Marine and friend, Sergeant Milan Franklin! It has been a few weeks since the execution of our run and what an incredible experience it has been. Not just an exhausting one, but one full of emotion, sweat, inspiration, and team work.
Without your help we just simply wouldn’t have been able to facilitate honoring our fellow Marine, nor even execute our planned event of running from Camp Pendleton to MCB 29 Palms. To be frank, the P2P Team and I are simply a handful of “Grunts”, United States Marine Infantrymen. We have barely any knowledge of how to put a website together, let alone an official Non Profit event. It is with both pride and humility that I say this.
Even though we don’t have any real knowledge or experience in organizing charitable events, we do have plenty of experience working our asses off for our buddies. Carrying an American flag over 145 miles (we found some shortcuts, thank the good Lord!) in over 110 degree heat, uphill, is actually something we are good at. Raising money for our friend to help him out is something we are not. That’s where you have come in to help us, and it is beyond my limited vocabulary to full express our gratitude.
Sergeant Milan Franklin is not only a close personal friend of mine, he is a true inspiration. A young man with his kind of work ethic and unrivaled loyalty to his fellow Marines is an excellent example of the kind of people who are serving right now in our United States Marine Corps. As I write this I am on a flight back to Camp Pendleton to get back to work after a couple of weeks of leave spent with my family in Milan and I’s home town. I have goosebumps as I type the following; ladies and gentlemen, THANK YOU for all of your love and support and please rest easy tonight…the Marines have this watch. Welcome to our Family.
